Autumn Wedding Trends in 2024 and Beyond:

A Perfect Blend of Autumn Nature and Nostalgia

At Vows & Views Wedding Fairs we have noticed that Autumn is an increasingly popular choice for weddings, bringing a cosy, romantic atmosphere that can make any celebration feel magical. There are a number of Wedding Fairs which take place throughout the seasons but after the Wedding Season has traditionally ended (i.e. May to September) the increase in Autumn Wedding Fairs and Autumn Weddings has been apparent and trends for weddings have changed a lot throughout the years. This is mainly due nowadays to people's change in tastes, circumstances and budgets!

2024 - What the season showed!

The 2024 season is shaping up to offer couples a fresh take on classic fall vibes with modern touches that personalise the experience.

After a little bit of research, we found out some of the top trends making waves in autumn weddings this year and setting the tone for seasons to come.

1. Nature-Infused Decor: Bringing the Outdoors In

One of the biggest trends for 2024 is drawing inspiration directly from nature. Think lush tablescapes adorned with rich greenery, pampas grass, and dried florals that evoke the changing seasons. Florists and venue stylists no longer have to rely on what is "in season" with the availability of more colours textures and variety now at their fingertips.

Autumn Wedding Centrepieces and flowers

Couples are embracing organic textures like wood, rattan, and stone, giving the decor an earthier, grounded feel. These elements are not only beautiful but also sustainable, aligning with the eco-conscious approach many couples are adopting.

Trend Tips:

  • Incorporate seasonal produce such as pumpkins, gourds, and apples into your decor.

Adding texture, colour, and charm to everything from centrepieces to table runners, reinforcing the autumn theme in a fresh, rustic way.

2. Warm, Earthy Color Palettes with a Pop of Rich Hues

Neutral earth tones continue to dominate, but autumn 2024 will see these softened by rich, bold colours like deep emerald green, burnt orange, mustard, and plum. These colours have long been associated with Autumn and we often wonder how to incorporate them into our life when we see them in nature.

Couples are opting for more adventurous pairings, blending classic neutrals with jewel tones or even incorporating metallic accents like antique gold and bronze for added warmth and elegance.

Trend Tips:

  • Create depth by layering colours through your table linens, florals, and even wedding attire. - Perhaps by hiring a colour stylist to help blend the suitable colours together for you.

  • Look at styling your Bridesmaids in different shades of complementary jewel tones or neutrals can add a dynamic, yet cohesive look to the wedding party.

3. Intimate, Micro-Weddings Focused on Experience

The micro-wedding trend, driven in part by recent years' focus on smaller gatherings, is here to stay. Couples are prioritising quality over quantity, choosing to spend more on the guest experience and personalized touches. With fewer attendees, budgets can go toward curated experiences like tasting menus, private wine tastings, and artisanal cocktails.

DIY weddings

Trend Tips :

  • Opt for interactive elements such as personalized cocktails inspired by each season. Consider setting up a whiskey-tasting station, or a DIY hot cocoa bar for a warm, memorable touch that guests will love.

4. Moody, Ambient Lighting for a Cozy Atmosphere

As the days grow shorter, moody lighting is a must to set the scene. Candles, fairy lights, and lanterns are all popular choices, but 2024 couples are getting creative by incorporating neon signs, LED installations, and statement chandeliers.

Layering soft, warm lighting with bolder accents not only illuminates the space but also enhances the mood, making autumn’s golden hour last long into the night.

Trend Tips:

Use lighting to create focal points. A floral arch with twinkling lights or a tree decorated with hanging lanterns can serve as an Instagram-worthy backdrop for both ceremonies and photo ops.

5. Velvet, Tulle, and Luxe Fabrics for Attire

Fashion for fall weddings in 2024 is all about rich textures. Velvet bridesmaid dresses, tulle veils, and even suits in dark, luxurious shades like charcoal, burgundy, or forest green are trending.

Brides are leaning toward flowing silhouettes with romantic details like lace sleeves, intricate embroidery, and dresses that feel effortless yet elegant. Velvet and satin also make an appearance in the decor, adding warmth and sophistication to the setup.

Green Grooms Attire

Trend Tips:

  • Consider a velvet wrap or shawl for yourself and your bridal party if you’re opting for an outdoor ceremony. Not only does it add an extra layer of warmth, but it’s also a chic and timeless accessory.

6. Sustainable and Locally Sourced Details

With a focus on sustainability, couples are choosing locally sourced flowers, seasonal foods, and eco-friendly decor options. This approach not only reduces the wedding's environmental impact but also brings a more personal, meaningful touch by showcasing the best of local autumnal flavours and florals.

Trend Tips:

  • Choose florals that are in season, like dahlias, chrysanthemums, and sunflowers. Many florists also offer dried floral options, which add texture and can be preserved as keepsakes long after the wedding. Florists can also offer artificial flowers which can vary in cost but they are longer lasting than real flowers. It all comes down to personal taste and preference.

7. Seasonal Culinary Experiences

Autumn provides a fantastic opportunity for culinary creativity. In 2024, couples are embracing seasonally inspired menus featuring hearty, rustic flavours.

Think roasted root vegetables, wild mushroom risotto, and mini charcuterie boards.

Dessert tables are also incorporating autumnal flavors, with treats like caramel apples, spiced doughnuts, and pumpkin-flavoured desserts.

Another trend we have noticed is the rise in Grazing tables and companies offering this type of service. Something that can personalised to suit the couple and their tastes and hopefully everyone else's! There are a lot more options out there now than the traditional sit-down meal or evening buffet.

Trend Tips:

Create a cosy, memorable experience for your guests by setting up a late-night s’mores station or serving warm apple cider or hot toddies. These simple yet thoughtful additions can make the season feel even more magical.

8. Unique Guest Experiences with Vintage Charm

Adding a touch of nostalgia is another popular trend for fall weddings in 2024. Many couples are opting for vintage-inspired details like typewriter guest books, classic vinyl stations for music, or Polaroid cameras for capturing candid memories. These elements are not only fun but also make for unforgettable keepsakes.

Gramaphone

Trend Tips:

  • Set up a “Vintage Lounge” area with mismatched sofas, vintage rugs, and cosy blankets for a charming, intimate space where guests can relax and mingle.

9. Customized Stationery and Handcrafted Touches

Personalised details are taking centre stage, especially with stationery and signage.

Watercolour invitations, calligraphy, and pressed flower details are all popular in 2024, bringing an artisanal feel to the wedding suite.

Couples are also leaning into handcrafted favours, like small jars of seasonal jam, locally made honey, or handmade candles that reflect the warmth and cosiness of the season.

Trend Tips:

  • Work with a local artist to design a custom wedding monogram that can be used throughout the decor, from invitations to signage, adding a consistent and personal touch to the wedding day.

10. Fall Foliage and Outdoor Ceremonies

Autumn foliage has always been one of the biggest draws for fall weddings, but in 2024, couples are making the most of this natural beauty by holding outdoor ceremonies and receptions that celebrate the season. Whether at a rustic barn, a vineyard, or a mountain lodge, outdoor weddings in the fall offer a scenic, breathtaking backdrop that can be enhanced with simple, elegant decor.

Trend Tips:

  • Offer cosy blankets for guests, and set up heat lamps if temperatures dip. These small touches make outdoor settings more comfortable while still taking advantage of the natural landscape.
